Choose your foundation — and stand on it.

Updated: 2 days ago

It’s been five and a half years since Michelle went to heaven. David is four and a half now—the same age Michelle was when she left us.

We can truly testify that God heals and that there is life after loss. It’s a journey… a lifelong journey—one of faith and trust.

Our home is now full of laughter and adventure again. Of course, we still face our share of challenges, just like any other healthy, normal family. But today, I want to share something from my journey that might encourage somebody walking a similar path.

There were days when I felt strong—full of faith and courage. But there were also days when grief would overwhelm me. And that, I’ve learned, is a normal part of healing after losing someone you love.

Over time, though, I began to notice a pattern—a mindset that shaped how my heart would feel. Some mornings, I woke up painfully aware of my loss, the absence of my daughter so real that it physically hurt. But on other mornings, I found myself deeply aware of the presence of the Lord—and that awareness filled my heart with peace.

It felt like seeing the same reality through two different lenses. When I looked through 2D lenses—the natural way—all I could see was loss, pain, and grief. It was heavy, overwhelming. But when I looked through 3D lenses—the spiritual way—I could sense the nearness of my Heavenly Daddy. His presence calmed my soul and gave me rest.

One day, the Lord gently spoke to my heart: “Choose your foundation—and stand on it.”

Did I want to live in a 2D world—the natural world filled with self-pity and pain?

Or did I want to live in a 3D world—a Spirit-filled life where the reality of His loving and healing presence and the hope of eternity shape my perspective?

I chose the latter—to live anchored in His presence, knowing that when my race on this earth is finished, I’ll be reunited with Jesus and with my daughter. And together, we’ll spend eternity in the fullness of His love.

And maybe your reality, through the natural lens, feels painful and overwhelming right now. I just want to encourage you—fix your eyes on Jesus and keep on trusting Him.

The love of our Heavenly Father is the most powerful source of healing and restoration. Ask Him to make His presence tangible for you, and the revelation of His love will fill your heart with

hope, peace, and joy.

We are eternal beings, temporarily living a human experience. So choose the foundation of God’s Word and His presence in your life—and stand on it. Invite the dimension of God’s presence into your situation, and may Jesus fill every corner of your heart with His peace.
